Conservation of Anglo Saxon Pendant
Acquired in 2018, and voted the Art Fund’s acquisition of the year, the Winfarthing pendant required intricate and complex interventive conservation before it could go on display in the British Library’s blockbuster exhibition ‘Anglo Saxon Kingdoms: Art, Word, War’.
This stunning 7th Century Anglo Saxon treasure is a gold disc inlayed with garnets, with a garnet inlayed central boss and four radiating bosses. Many of the tiny garnets needed to be individually cleaned and secured in place.
